First presentation of 3.1 Philip Lim was at the 2005
New York FW. After this, the designer has received several awards like the 2007
CFDA Swarovski Award in Women's Wear.
Lim says about his clothes : "3.1 is about
clothes that refine instead of define. A refinement that's a bit classic in
attitude but imports a sense of individual style without looking or feeling
forced. Confident, unidentifiable, chic and most of all effortless."
The 2011 Fall
RTW collection looks really easy to wear, meaning not restricting clothes. It's
colorful with, on one side, winter colors (or what people think about like
winter colors though other colors can be worn in winter) like grey, dark blue,
dark forest green, powerful deep brown, even mustard yellow and on the other
side it's strewn with what I could call Mondrian colors (missing yellow and
adding a flashing green) and I should add a touch of soft nude colors. It's
clothes you can wear night and day and as it's said in Lim's quote, it's being
stylish and glamorous without looking too glossy. The casual looks are made of
several pieces of clothes and it's really contrasting with the more classy
looks, very pure, sometime with a psychedelic pattern. Fabrics look really
fluid and comfortable and the leather pieces (the pant !) are really attractive
with this deep and rich color that is an umpteenth contrasting point with the
really "block" colors like a big white design living room with a
cracked club armchair in it.
